Those of us over 50 and even in our late 30's & 40's, grew up outside and active! Climbing, jumping, throwing, catching, swinging things, running, riding, basically every possible movement we could make we did. Because of that we created skills, movement skills, that made us physically literate and able to take on any physical task.
Then life happened... college, job, maybe a family, events taking up weekends, and the years passed by. Spending most of your hours each week sitting most of the day diminished the skills that you once possessed, and now you found yourself in position that allows you to play more golf!
The key to playing golf regularly, to play at the level you would like, and truly enjoy the game, isn't about having the perfect swing or hitting balls for hours on the range. You will only end up in a bath tub full of salt or worse! It's about re-skilling your body with those basic movement skills that you developed years ago, in your youth.
The benefits of playing golf are vast and include improving your:

Participating in a healthy activity, outside in nature, with others is one of the best ways to improve your social life and your emotional well being. Yes we do hit bad shots, but the key is to get better. Challenge your self to improve and your self esteem and confidence will improve dramatically.
Golfing for a lifetime is possible as well. With proper stretching, this low impact sport is great for us at any age. Our bodies want us to keep moving, especially as we age. There was a research project done in Sweden in 2009. The study showed many health benefits of golfers, as the researchers studied over 300,000 men and women. Their conclusion, golfers increase their life expectancy by 5 years! That's huge!! The study can be found here https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18510595/

Walking, cycling, rowing, sit ups & push ups are all activities that will get your body moving again. Even dancing! You don't have to over train your self, just get moving again and your body will start to wake up and become more active.
Nothing is worse than a set back due to an injury. We all know that the older we get, the longer the recovery time is, The key is to develop a more active lifestyle, don't over do it.
A lot of information has changed over the years as it relates to the golf club, the golf ball flight and the golf swing. Understand that there is a lot of different ways to hit a shot. if you are going to start taking lessons. Do your research on the golf instruction that the professional provides, before taking a lesson. You don't have to bend yourself up like a pretzel to do it! A golf ball hit on the center of the club face is still the most important aspect in the golf shot. Focus on that first, then work on club face alignment, followed by club path. A short swing striking a golf ball in the center of the club face still produces a great golf shot!
